NOTE ON CHANGES TO RULES ON ACCESS TO THE LABOUR MARKET FOR INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION APPLICANTS

Are you an international protection applicant?

On 28th January 2021, the Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, announced that international protection applicants can now apply to access the labour market if they have not received a first-instance decision within 6 months (rather than the previous rule of 9 months).

The Minister also announced that applicants’ permission to work will now last for a period of 12 months, rather than 6.

Where requested, the Labour Market Access Unit (LMAU) will re-examine any applications for permission to access the labour market which were previously refused on the basis of a first instance decision being made in less than 9 months.

You can read more about this here.

The LMAU has strongly advised that applications should be made electronically to lmauapplications@justice.ie.

You can read more about Access to the Labour Market, and find the appropriate Application Forms here.

If you need advice in relation to any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us by telephone on 01 671 56 18 or by email at info@dlcm.ie. Our International Protection & Immigration Department will be happy to assist you.
